LANDS POINT GUARD
Point guard Kenyan Jackson signs with
University of North Alabama
Coach Bobby Champagne's search for a
point guard ended Wednesday when junior
college playmaker Kenyan Jackson signed
a scholarship agreement to play for the
University of North Alabama men’s
basketball team in the fall.
The 5-foot-10 Jackson was the Lions top
target this spring along with other
signees Marcus Landry and Matt Margavio.
The Alabaster, AL native averaged 4
points, 5.3 assists 2 rebounds and 2
steals this past season, leading Shelton
State to a 28-4 record and a No. 7
national ranking. He was listed as one
of the top guards in the state and was
widely considered to be one of the best
point guards available during the spring
period. The floor-general helped Shelton
State average almost 87 points per game
while he had over a 2 to 1 assist to
turnover ratio.
"We went into the spring signing period
wanting to improve our rebounding and
solidify the point guard position,"
Champagne said. "We are very happy to
have KJ join our program." He is a
leader both on and off the floor so we
are very excited that we will have him
for the next three seasons."
Jackson will have three years of
eligibility remaining and figures to
make an immediate impact for North
Alabama, which will return one other
point guard on their roster - senior
Trent McCants. Jackson triggered Coach
Barry Mohun's high powered offense and
lead the Shelton State Buccaneers to an
Alabama Community College North Division
Championship.
"K.J." prepped at Thompson High School
for head coach Jeff Nichols. He averaged
eight points, five assists and two
rebounds per game as a senior for the
Class 6A Warriors in leading them to the
2007-08 area championship. Following his
junior and senior seasons he received
the Warriors' award for Best Defensive
Player and Assists Leader.
