MARGAVIO THE NEWEST LION

Springville's Margavio Signs with the University of North Alabama

The University of North Alabama Head basketball Coach Bobby Champagne announced the signing of Matt Margavio to a national letter of intent. The Alabama high school prep standout will enroll at the University in the fall of 2010.

"We are very happy to have Matt join our program," Champagne said. "He is a great young man who is also a very good basketball player."

Maragavio, a 6-5, 180-pound forward, attends Springville High School. As a senior, he led his team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Coach Jeff Smith. Springville finished 19-11 this season.

"We identified Matt very early in the recruiting process as someone we would like to have in our program and Coach Kyle Morris did a great job of keeping Matt and his family interested in UNA and our basketball program," Champagne said. "He is an exceptional outside shooter with good size on the wing."

Margavio was selected to the 5A All-Area Team as well as being named MVP of St. Clair County and Co-MVP of St. Clair County Tournament. He scored over 1,000 points during his high school career making 95 3-point field goals during his senior season. Matt was also named the 2009 MVP of the Colonnade All-Star Basketball Camp which features some of the best high school players in the Southeast. UNA will look for Margavio to provide depth on the perimeter.
