THE
WIZARD OF OZ
Most
children would love an opportunity to meet
the Wizard of Oz. My two oldest sons,
Charlie (6) and Will (5) are no different.
They would really enjoy running through
the forest with a Lion and a Scarecrow.
Charlie and Will had an opportunity to
visit with the “Wizard of Oz” a couple of
weeks ago, just not the one they thought
they were going to meet.
Charlie and Will got to spend some time
with Ozzie Smith, Hall of Fame Baseball
Player, as part of the Mike Lane Roast. We
were on the road playing UWF and VSU so I
asked my wife to take the boys to see
Ozzie. She was not sure who he was or why
these guys needed to spend a Saturday
afternoon with this guy.
Charlie and Will didn’t want to meet,
“some guy who plays for the Cardinals when
we play for the Dodgers.” But afterwards
they wanted to get home to find his card.
One day these two little boys will be able
to brag to their friends that they met
Ozzie Smith, one of the best to ever play
the game. As a dad, I am happy that they
got that opportunity, and very thankful
that Ozzie Smith was gracious enough to
take the time to spend with these two
young boys. He may have 13 Gold Gloves and
15 All Star appearances and an NLCS MVP,
but more importantly he is a class act and
had a great message for those who he spoke
with.
Thank you Ozzie Smith for being a truly
nice person.
