LIONS STAY AT THE TOP OF SOUTH REGION RANKINGS

FLORENCE -- The University of North Alabama men's basketball team still ranks as the top team in the NCAA Division II South Region in the latest rankings released Wednesday.

UNA, now 23-7 overall after a Tuesday win over West Georgia, is No. 1 in the region, followed by Florida Southern, Benedict, Tampa, Harding, Eckerd, Rollins and West Georgia. The top eight teams in the final regional rankings on March 9 will advance to the Division II National Tournament. The Lions are hoping to host the the South Regional, which would be held on March 15-16 and 18. UNA has made 11 previous trips to the NCAA Tournament and has a remarkable 27-10 record. The Lions haven't hosted an NCAA Regional in Flowers Hall since 1983-84. UNA has a perfect 9-0 record in NCAA Tournament games in Flowers Hall.
