JOHNSON TABBED GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Gulf South Conference has announced its Men's Basketball Players of the Week for the week ending December 18th.

North Alabama guard Kenny Johnson (SR, 5-11, 160, Plaquemine, Louisiana).

Johnson is the third different UNA honoree this season, leading the Lions to a pair of important road wins last week. He averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 38.0 minutes of action, while also shooting 56.5 from the floor and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc.

The senior started the week, netting a game-high 25 points and adding team-best seven boards in an 83-66 victory at Clayton State. Next, the Plaquemine, LA native led North Alabama to an important 79-62 in-region road win over Lynn by scoring 18 points, dishing out a game-high six assists and pulling down five rebounds in 37 minutes.

This is the fourth time in five weeks that a UNA Lion has claimed player of the week honors. Casey Holt claimed the award the weeks of 11/20/07, and 11/28/07 while Thomas Fraise won the award the week of 12/12/07). UNA is now 9-4 on the season with a 5-2 record within the region.
