UNA ADDS TEXAS TECH TRANSFER
FLORENCE – The University of North
Alabama men's basketball team has added
one more player to its 2011-12 roster.
Head coach Bobby Champagne has announced
that senior transfer Theron Jenkins will
join the Lions this season.
Jenkins, who most recently played at
Texas Tech, will have one year of
eligibility remaining. He prepped at
Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood,
Miss., followed by two seasons at
Itawamba Community College in Fulton,
Miss.
The 6-6 swing player was a team captain
in high school for coach Jason Broom. He
was also named team MVP as well as an
All-Metro selection during his senior
season.
In two seasons under coach Marty Cooper
at the junior college level, his team
went 49-13. As a freshman he averaged
7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game,
helping ICC capture the division, state
and regional championships. In his
sophomore campaign, Jenkins upped his
average to 13.3 and 4.9 rebounds per
game, leading the Indians to their third
straight north division title.
Jenkins played in 31 games at Texas
Tech, averaging just over nine minutes
per contest. During the 2009-10 season,
he averaged 2.9 points and 2.0 rebounds
per game, while shooting 42 percent from
the field. He had a season-high of 12
rebounds versus Texas and seven rebounds
vs. Colorado.
Jenkins redshirted during the 2010-2011
season due to an injury and is scheduled
to graduate in May.
The addition of Jenkins will give the
Lions six new players to the roster this
season. Jenkins will join sophomore
transfer Tyler Richardson, and freshmen
Luke Corkery, Nathan Spehr, Lazar Petrov
and Florence native Corey Ricks.
