CHESNEY JOINS UNA MEN’S BASKETBALL COACHING STAFF

FLORENCE – Former University of North Alabama men’s basketball standout Andrew Chesney has returned to the program to join to coaching staff. Head coach Bobby Champagne has announced that Chesney has been named graduate assistant coach. He replaces Kyle Morris, who was recently promoted to assistant coach.

Chesney graduated from UNA in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in Biology. He was a member of the Lion team that advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight during the 2007-08 season. He was the third-leading scorer on the squad in his senior season averaging 13 points per game.

Chesney coached last season at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. The Birmingham native also played at Wallace State-Hanceville and Palm Beach Community College in Lake Worth, Fla. He compiled a 93-35 record in his college career as a player including a 45-19 mark in two seasons at UNA

Chesney has also worked a variety of college basketball camps during the past four summers, including the UNA Elite Camp.

"I am looking forward to having coach Chesney join our staff," said Champagne. "He will be a valuable asset and I believe he will be able to relate well with the players. He was a very successful player and I believe that will carry over into his coaching as well."
